Ocean School at COP 15

From December 7th to December 19th, 2022, delegates from around the world gathered in Montreal for COP 15, the UN Biodiversity Conference, and Ocean School was thrilled to be part of this international event.

COP 15 is the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Unlike COP 27, which took place in November 2022 in Egypt and was dedicated to solving the issue of climate change, COP 15 focused on biodiversity conservation.

Attending and participating in COP 15 was a great privilege, since biodiversity protection is a big part of Ocean School's educational resources. On December 17 at the Canadian Pavilion, our team presented with our partners, the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition and Canadian Geographic Education, the Ocean, Freshwater and Us Giant Floor Map and its augmented reality app Ocean Week Canada. We were thrilled to see attendees and the public try out this activity and explore Canadian coastlines and waterways.

Four of Ocean School’s videos that highlight Canada’s biodiversity were also displayed at the NFB space viewing kiosk. Attendees were able to watch: Awesome soup, Off-the-hook habitats, ROPOS must dive and Balancing act on the ground floor of the Montreal National Film Board offices, l’Îlot Balmoral.
