Ocean School is celebrating World Ocean Day, on June 8th, with a host of activities! The evening will start with a panel discussion on "Celebrating Canada's leadership role in Ocean Literacy" at 5:30 pm featuring experts and leaders in ocean conservation. The panel will feature the following:
Anne-Marie Asselin (Organisation Bleue) - Anne-Marie is the founder of the Blue Organization. She has a Master's degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and her work focuses on sustainable ocean development and climate change.
Diz Glithero (Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition) - Diz is an interdisciplinary educator, social science researcher, and project leader, specializing in ocean, climate, sustainability learning and civic engagement.
Philippe Archambault (ArcticNet) - Dr. Philippe Archambault (PhD) is a Professor of Biology at Université Laval and the Scientific Director of ArcticNet, a Canadian Network of Centers of Excellence.
Scott Simpson (Ocean School) - Scott is a 20 year veteran in the Canadian Film Industry. He has led the creation of more than 40 hours of primetime television for Discovery, National Geographic and more!
Sergio Madrigal (Ocean School youth host) - Sergio Madrigal is a dedicated graduate student researcher at California State University, where he focuses on marine science and conservation.
Megan Dicker Nochasak (Inuk Youth Climate Advocate) Megan Dicker Nochasak is an Inuk youth leader from Nain, Nunatsiavut who has experience in research, climate advocacy, and language revitalization. She is a student at Carleton University on unceded Algonquin territory.
You can watch the live stream of the panel discussion on Ocean School's Facebook page with the original bilingual feed, Ocean School's YouTube channel in English and Organisation Bleue's Semaine de l'océan Facebook page in French. The panel will be followed by a concert by Qualité Motel at Old Port at 7:30 pm. After the concert, we wrap up the evening with spectacular Ocean School video projections at the Wilder Building in Quartier des Spectacles from 9:30 pm onwards.
