A creative and collaborative ocean
During the day, children and passers-by were invited to use their creativity by drawing a marine creature to populate our virtual ocean! By taking a seat at the Ocean Station, anyone could create and animate their own marine animal on a tablet. The public was also invited to take part in an immersive experience of the ocean in virtual reality with a selection of our 360˚ videos.

The projections also featured a simple quiz for passers-by. The public was invited to guess which creature was hiding behind a silhouette using a fun fact about it as a clue. It included species found in Canadian waters such as the right whale, harp seal, cod, Pacific salmon, northern gannet, killer whale and Greenland shark.
Protecting our ocean
The projections also aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of protecting the ocean. This part of the projection mapping tied back to Ocean School’s mission: making people understand our influence on the ocean and the ocean’s influence on us. Visuals from Ocean School's vast video content and inspiring key messages were be projected to catch the public's eye.
MAPP_MTL was created in 2016 from the desire to offer a showcase space accessible to Montreal talent while democratizing and promoting the development of video mapping. MAPP also positions itself as an active actor in the influence of this emerging practice by offering creative workshops accessible to all and opening a true inclusive dialogue between residents, artists and their neighbourhood.
